BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Gather a few things.

This sheet, two sheets of paper, two low stacks of books and one lightweight chunky toy.

One useful question

“What do you want to change for the next try?”

HOW IT GOES

  1. A grown-up sets two stable book stacks about four inches apart. Lay flat paper across.
  2. Predict, then set the toy gently in the middle. Record the result.
  3. Fold the second paper like a fan. Keep the gap and toy the same. Test and compare.

Make it gentler

Grown-up folds; child predicts and places the toy.

Add a little stretch

Measure the gap. Change only one thing for a third trial.

A good place to stop

Name the bridge and give the toy one final crossing.
