BEFORE YOU BEGIN
A few simple materials.
No Go experience needed. A grown-up can read aloud. Use a Go set, draw stones, or print the included kit. For a 9 x 9 game, print two copies of the stone sheet.
Bring a pencil and crayons. Pointing, speaking and drawing all count as participation.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
One discovery at a time.
Place stones correctly, count a group’s liberties, recognize captures, and explain a first game using the collection’s stated area-scoring rules.
Why it matters: each small activity makes a rule visible, then gives the learner a chance to try it and explain what happened.
Start here.
Read the route on page 1. Start with crossing places on page 2, take turns on page 3, and color the breathing-spaces model on page 4. Use a short pointing or drawing activity before trying a game.
One page and a short conversation are enough for a first session. The whole collection is a pathway, not a single sitting.

Start with any unfamiliar rule, then use the stretch activities to explain and test a plan.
With the book, or on its own.
Use a matching topic after reading your Sage Dad book, or follow the collection from the beginning. No chapter knowledge, special account or book purchase is needed.

Teaching cues and worked answers are included. Ask “How do you know?” and try a new example. Coloring or finishing a sheet is not a test score.
Use adult cutting help. If loose tokens are unsuitable, point or draw instead.
Clear rules for a first game.
Capture Go is labeled as a short learning game. The complete-game guide then uses a stated teaching ruleset with area scoring, no self-capture and a no-repeat rule. Formal tournament rules may differ; references are included.
